Engraver

Gianni Gamba

Born in Italy in 1954, Gianni Gamba has lived and worked in Quebec since the 1980s.

The approach

His printmaking practice draws on the legacy of classical engraving, favouring intaglio techniques.

His work offers a wordless poetry, built from strokes of ink on paper. Through monochrome compositions, he explores the relationship between image and emotion.

By capturing the tangible reality of forms and places, he draws on everyday life to create works imbued with peace, harmony and inner depth.

Path

Gianni Gamba took up drawing from a very young age before devoting himself to engraving.

Trained under a professor from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, he has spent many years pursuing personal and collaborative research and experimentation in intaglio techniques.

He has taken part in numerous international symposiums, where his work has earned various prizes and distinctions, including first prize for printmaking from the Cercle des artistes peintres et sculpteurs du Québec. His work has been exhibited in Italy, France, Romania, Bulgaria, Belgium, China and Canada.
